Charlene Wittstock
Charlene The Model
Born in the former British colony of Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, Charlene Lynette Wittstock now has the world fascinated as a possible future princess of Monaco.
Charlene was born on January 25, 1978 in the city of Bulawayo, although some sources claim wrongly that she was born in Benoni, South Africa. She actually moved to South Africa with her family when she was 10 years old. Despite being born in Rhodesia - or Zimbabwe as it is now -Charlene became an Olympic swimmer for South Africa.
Little has been published of her parents or early life. Her parents are Lynette and Mike Wittstock, and Charlene attended the Tom Newby primary school in Benoni, South Africa.
Thetimes.co.za quotes the principal of the school as saying of Charlene Wittstock, "We could see the talent and signs that she was always destined for greater things."
Swimming
Charlene was a member of the South African Women's 4x100m medley team swimming, which came fifth in the 2000 Sydney Olympics held between September 13 and October 1. She also swims the 200 m breaststroke and 50 m, 100 m and 200 m backstroke. In fact she has held a number of swimming records in South Africa during her professional career. Some of these include:
o 50 m backstroke in 29:18 and 28 respectively in the long and short courses in 2002
o 100 m backstroke in 1:00:16 minutes, short course at the 2001-2002 World Cup
o 200 m backstroke in 2:08:72, short course in 2002
In April 2007 Charlene took back her title as South Africa's 50 m backstroke champion with a time of 30:16 seconds at the Telkom SA National Aquatic Championship meet.
Charlene Wittstock And Prince Albert Of Monaco
Since being seen with Prince Albert II of Monaco in 2006, Charlene has become a celebrity, appearing in magazines such as OK! and Hello - by way of paparazzi photographs rather than with formal organised interviews and photo shoots.
Speculation in Monaco have been rife recently that the pair will be getting married later this year. However, sources close to Charlene have denied the allegations.
