The Turkish Grand Prix, held at the Istanbul Park Circuit, which was constructed by the famous German civil engineer Hermann Tilke. The Grand Prix circuit is only the third anti-clockwise track on the Formula One calendar after the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy and the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Brazil.

The track follows the contours of the land, which dips and falls. It takes an influence from many of the worlds best race tracks. Corner 1 is very similar to corner one in Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Brazil and has also been compared to the "corkscrew" at Laguna Seca. There is a flat-out kink on a hill similar to Eau Rouge corner at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

The Turkish Grand Prix is located on the Asian side of Istanbul, 6 km from the junction of Kurtkoy on the north side of TEM Motorway, linking Istanbul to Ankara . The site is close to the newly constructed Sabiha Gokcen Istanbul Airport. In addition to easy access form TEM and Airport, the Site is located within the green belt surrounded by forest and cultivated green fields. The area is clean of any pollution and pleasantly attractive for out door activities.

Overview

Turkish Grand PrixThe Track which runs anti-clockwise is 5,333 m long with an average width of 14 - 21.5 m, excluding Runoff Areas. The race is 58 Laps 309.396 km (192.250 mi). The Circuit is composed of 14 curves, of which 6 are right turns and 8 left turns. The sharpest turn has a radius of 15m. The start-finish straight is 655.5m in length. The Track runs over 4 level sections with rising and descending grades.

Probably the best corner on the track is Turn 8. It's a quadruple apex corner with a load of 5G (5 times the force of gravity) for 4 seconds. It is actually 4 corners joined together. A number of drivers have found this a difficult corner of the circuit.

The spectator facilities are impressive - organisers knew they had to rival the very high standards set by Bahrain and China. Dominating the circuit's skyline are two seven-floor VIP towers at either end of the paddock. Seating capacity is around 130,000, with 25,000 of those in the main grandstand, and parking is available for 12,000 cars.
