The German Grand Prix became part of the Formula One World Championship in 1951. The German Grand Prix's permanent home used to be the Hockenheimring until it was announced in 2006 that it would be shared between the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring from 2007 alternating between the two circuits each year with Hockenheim starting in 2007. Hockenheimring is situated in the Rhine valley nearby the town of Hockenheim in Baden-Württemberg
