Canadian Grand Prix
Overview
The Grand Prix du Canada or in english the Canadian Grand Prix or sometimes simply known as the "GPC" first started in 1961 and became part of the Formula One World Championship in 1967.
The home of the Grand Prix is the Île Notre-Dame in Montreal where it has been held since 1978. The Canadian Grand Prix is a very popular event in the F1 calendar, it was the most watched Formula One GP in 2005 and also the third most watched sporting event in the world that year.
One thing the circuit is known for are the local ground hogs which are a hazard for the drivers with some being hit in the past causing damage. Local city officials work for several weeks before the event to clear the area and transport them to nearby Ile Ste-Helene.
