Princess Caroline of Monaco

Princess Caroline, otherwise known as Her Serene Highness and Her Royal Highness Princess of Hanover, has been one of the world's most photographed women, made even more so because she is the daughter of Hollywood icon Grace Kelly and Monaco's Prince Rainier III.

Born January 23, 1957, Princess Caroline Louise Margaret made her debut in the Princes’ Palace in Monaco, much to the delight of her doting parents. From the moment of her birth, she was groomed to represent the Royal Family in a very positive, endearing manner.

Princess Caroline finished her education at the renowned Sorbonne, in Paris. There she earned a diploma in Philosophy, minoring in Psychology and Biology. In addition to such a scientific course load, the princess also learned and speaks French, English, German, Spanish and Italian. She is also adept at playing the piano, the flute and has studied ballet at the Marika Besobrasova School of Dance in Monte Carlo.

The young princess grew to adulthood lavished in the spotlight as the daughter of a famous actress, and many Hollywood icons attended her wedding to Phillipe Junot in June of 1978, a marriage that lasted less than two years. Sorrow was to follow Princess Caroline, with the sudden and shocking death of her mother, actress Grace Kelly, following a car crash in 1982.

Caroline stepped into her mother's shoes as the new First Lady of Monaco. In popularity, Grace Kelly enjoyed the world's adoration and respect, much like Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and her death rocked the world. All eyes were on Monaco as Caroline, a young 25 year old, was suddenly thrust into the limelight as the hostess of many national and social events in Monaco.

In December 1983, Princess Caroline married Stefano Casiraghi. They had three children together, Andrea (born 1984), Charlotte (born 1986) and Pierre (born 1987). Tragically, Stefano was killed in a boat race in 1990.

Children And Caroline

Princess Caroline has followed in the Royal Family tradition of supporting and focusing on the needs of children and youth around the world. After having held numerous positions as well as creating a wide number of organizations and committees furthering the education, training and development of children around the world, Princess Caroline became President of the Worldwide Association of Children's Friends, in 1993. The organization supports and protects children from psychological and physical abuse.

In January 1999, Princess Caroline married His Royal Highness Prince Ernst of Hanover, and they had a daughter, her fourth child, Alexandra, born later that year.

In 2003, Princess Caroline was appointed as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in recognition of her accomplishments and goals to protect children. These days, Princess Caroline busies herself with her duties with the Red Cross and the Princess Grace Foundation, as well as her duties and obligations as a Goodwill Ambassador.

Princess Caroline has become one of the world's favorite celebrities, and while growing up in the shadow of a Hollywood icon, has managed to create and cast an independent one for herself.
